Hitty Lark Collaborative Foofaraw/Kerfuffle October 18-20, 2024
Because some of our doll carvers and collectors don’t really care for Facebook, I decided to add a page here on my website for sharing information about the upcoming Hitty event. No one should be forced to do social media if they don’t want to. Also, these posts have been transferred here from Facebook, so if they feel like the timeline of the information has lots of curves, that’s probably why.
Hitty Lark: A Collaborative (and Impending)Foofaraw
Anyone who knows us is aware that we enjoy the history and fascination of Hitty and indeed all wooden dolls, especially when they are designed to move in such precisely engineered yet elegantly imaginative ways. When we reflect back on all the years of carving and learning with friends and fellow adventurers, that certainly comes straight to mind. But lately, one thing stands out as a common thread, a uniting bond no matter what styles, sizes, or complexity we enjoy in dolls- FUN.
All of us love to play, and imagine worlds that tiny small figments of our imagination populate and inhabit. This draws us together to be inspired and pique our creativity again and again. You either understand, and can relate, or you don’t.
A second factor is that to us, a doll carver must be equal parts creative artiste and engineer. Some of us have strengths that lay more or less to one side or the other, but oh how we love to whittle, eat, talk, and share in communal love for just enough engineering know-how to use the available tools to make artwork, and just enough curiosity to push the dryness and rationality of The Rules!
We cannot underestimate the things we’ve learned from our fellow doll carvers, and for this latest event, we have asked 2 of our favorite doll carver friends and peers to collaborate with us on the project. Most of you are familiar with these two carvers, and if you’re not, you’ll enjoy getting to know them very much. We are privileged to join TC Vollum, who publishes a new episode of dolltales.com every Sunday, and Kjerstin Mackie, who authors the blog Quimper Hittys at quimperhitty.com in a collaboration for a wholly new type of Hitty, Hitty Lark. Our goal and hope is that you will be able to see each one of us in this doll.

MORE ABOUT HITTY LARK AND HER FOOFARAW/KERFUFFLE
We do have some news to share with you. Dates are solidified now, and so is our venue. Yay! As usual, we all have Mary Bowman to thank for many easy and comfortable things.
VENUE: Branson, Missouri, at the same place by the lake we had before. Remember the space, and the easy parking? It’s wonderful and beautiful. This venue is not part of a hotel, so you’ll need to look for rooms yourselves. Branson is literally full of hotels, motels, and restaurants.
DATES: October 18, 19, 20, 2024–Save the date! Find a buddy and reserve rooms. There will be plenty of room at the venue for all the visiting and catching up we want to do
OTHER FACTORS:
We’re thinking we’ll bring back the catered breakfast on the first day, because it certainly helps us get to know each other.
We have not settled on a cost yet, because Adina and I need to get together for a few days and actually figure out our own expenses and time for the upcoming year. We will post it as soon as we know.
If you’re coming to this event, you can have a sales table (tables may have to be shared) to sell your own “stuff,” as long as it’s Hitty related.
There will be a silent auction, and if you’d like to donate any doll related items to that, we’d be thankful.
More information will be forthcoming about other activities. We plan to have a mini class or two, and who knows what else. We’re planning all that, so be sure to say so if you think of things you want.
Hitty Lark is being carved! All the Larks are being carved!
As I said, more information will be coming. Feel free to ask questions, but remember that we may not have the answers yet. You know us- we may not ever have the answers!
